Here Are Some Proven Techniques You Can Use to Maintain Your Health & Performance Into Your 60’s, 70’s and Beyond…
By Elliot Newman
In response THIS blog post, a reader called Ron asked if I would write a blog post specifically for OLDER GUYS – explaining what they should do to maintain a healthy body.
Here are my suggestions…
(The more of them you use, the better the results you’ll get)
5 Ways to Maintain, and Improve Your Health & Performance as You Age…
#1: Do The Following Movements 3 Times a Day…
I love doing heavy squats, deadlifts, bench presses, shoulder presses, pull-ups and so on.
But…
As you age, these things aren’t necessary for health. Sure, you can do them, but you don’t have to.
For health, I recommend focusing on MOVEMENT QUALITY. Allow me to explain…
These days, even younger people move like crap! They sit down for way too many hours, leading to terrible posture, joint issues, and horrible movement patterns.
As far as Movement Quality goes, the best system I’ve ever discovered, by far, is called:
Original Strength.
I recommend you read their books, and study their blog and YouTube Channel.
To get started, I recommend you do the following routine 3 times a day (it’ll only take about 3 minutes each time, once you learn the movements. So it’s hardly a big time commitment!)
- Head Nods x 10 reps
- Segmental Rolling x 3 reps each way
- Rocking x 10 reps
- Baby Crawl Forwards x 30 reps
Note: I’ve hyperlinked the movements above, to the Original Strength YouTube channel. Watch the videos closely, learn how to do the movements correctly, and do the little 3-minute routine I suggested 3 times a day. See what happens in 30 days…
…you’ll be amazed at how much better your posture is, how much better you move, how much better your balance and coordination are, and so on.
This system is the only thing Health Practice I’ve done EVERY SINGLE DAY for the past 7 years. Every day, without fail. Give it a try for 30 days and you’ll see why 🙂
#2: Get Hydrated…

People spend a lot of time worrying about what to EAT. And, that’s important, for sure.
But, not as important as FLUIDS.
People need to drink more WATER. Especially as they age.
Did you know that when babies are born, they’re made up of upwards of 70% WATER? Older people can be as little as 40% water.
Now consider how the body changes as you age:
- The skin loses its elasticity and becomes dry and wrinkled
- The joints become creaky, stiff and painful. Muscles become tight and lose flexibility
- The brain (which is made up mostly of water) literally becomes DIRTY (if you fail to drink enough water) and stops working as well as it should (think: memory loss, lack of focus and clarity and so on)
See what I mean?
It’s important for everyone to drink more water. But, especially as you age. Check out THIS video to see why WATER is so important for your BRAIN. It’ll blow your mind.
#3: Pay Close Attention to Your Nutrition…

I have 3 simple suggestions as far as nutrition goes. Again, these suggestions apply to EVERYONE, but they’re especially important for older guys (and older women):
- Eat only when you’re hungry
- STOP eating when you are no longer hungry (meaning: don’t keep eating till you feel fit to EXPLODE)
- Eat a natural, unprocessed, mostly organic diet, reinforced with Superfoods and Superherbs
Pretty simple, huh?
The secret is actually doing it.
#4: Sleep More

Depending on the study you read, something like 80-90% of men are UNHAPPY with their QUALITY of sleep.
Since sleep is when the body rests, repairs and recovers… and, since sleep affects your Hormones…
This ain’t good!
A good night’s sleep, for me personally, is the difference between going to the gym the next day and feeling like a WARRIOR, vs: not wanting to even do my warm ups. And I’m not yet 40!
As you age, sleep becomes even more important if you want to maintain your Health & Performance.
I recommend:
- Going to bed, and getting up at a set time. I like 10am, and 5.50am. Gives me about 8 hours of quality, deep sleep
- Making sure your bedroom is pitch black and cool
- Not drinking a ton of water within 2 hours of bed (this’ll decrease your chances of waking up, and interrupting your sleep, to pee)
- Turning off all electrical devices in your bedroom, because these can disturb your sleep quality
- Sleeping separately to your woman at least twice a week. Controversial I know, but you won’t believe how much better you sleep when you have your own bed!

#5: Remove as Much Stress from Your Life as Possible…

Stress is the big killer these days.
Chronic, low level, constant, day-to-day stress.
Our Society is riddled with it.
And, the more you can remove from your life, the better.
Seriously – if you want health and performance no matter what your age, reducing your stress levels as much as possible may be the most important thing you can do. Period.
My #1 Stress Reduction Technique is Breath Meditation.
Here’s how it works:
Sit or lie down…
Close your eyes…
Shut your mouth…
Witness your breath going in and out of your nose.
That’s it!
But…
Your mind will wander. You’ll think about everything other than your breath. Whenever this happens, gently return your thoughts to your breath.
Even as little as 5 minutes in the morning and 5 minutes in the evening, can do wonders for your stress levels. Give it a try, for, say, 30 days, and see what you think.
I hope you have the courage and persistence to put these 5 strategies into practice, on a consistent daily basis. When you do, your Health and Performance should take a welcome step in the right direction.

12/07/2021 - 7:38 amI’m amazed, I have to admit. Seldom do I encounter a blog that’s both
equally educative and entertaining, and without a doubt,
you’ve hit the nail on the head. The problem is something that not enough
people are speaking intelligently about. Now i’m very happy that I found this in my search
for something concerning this.

16/07/2019 - 4:20 pmHello Adam; I love the product. It is only enhancing the healthy lifestyle that I have been living for over 40 years. Quick questions….The RockHard only lasted for 12 days! I have been following the instructions to the letter. What did I do wrong or was the bag only half full?? Also, what is the “recharge” used for?

to make it last a month.
Did you do heaped teaspoons?
